The Key to Your Bright Future in China

Chinese University Intakes

What are "Intakes"?

Intakes refer to the official periods when Chinese universities accept applications for international students to start their studies.

Unlike many Western countries that primarily have a September intake, Chinese universities typically offer two main intakes per academic year,

with additional options for language and preparatory programs.

1. Main Intakes for International Students

September Intake (Autumn Intake)

• Timeline: Applications open October 2025–June 2026; admission results released by December 2025 –July 2026.

• Programs:  Open to nearly ALL universities, covering degree programs (undergraduate, master’s, doctoral) and

non-degree programs (Chinese language courses, foundation programs, etc.), with the most complete range of majors available.

• Why choose it: This is the most popular intake with the widest range of programs available, students can pursue extensive programs and scholarship opportunities.

March Intake (Spring Intake)

• Timeline: Applications open October 2025–January 2026; admission results released by November 2025–February 2026.

• Programs:  ONLY a subset of universities offer March Intake, MOSTLY for non-degree programs (e.g., Chinese language courses).

Degree programs (undergraduate/master/PhD) are available but limited, primarily for popular majors.

• Why choose it: Ideal for students who want to enrol quickly without waiting until the September intake.

2. Additional Intakes for Special Programs

• Language & Preparatory Programs: Available year-round (January, March, June, September, November) to help students improve their Chinese language skills

or meet academic prerequisites for degree programs.

• Short-Term Exchange Programs: Often aligned with partner universities’ calendars, with flexible start dates throughout the year.

3. Key Application Tips for International Students

• Plan Early: The September intake has the highest competition, so begin preparing your documents (passport, graduation certificate, transcripts, etc.) 6–12 months in advance.

• Check Program Availability: Not all programs offer a March intake—confirm with Future Consulting office.

• Application Deadline: Ensure your scores meet the deadline for your chosen intake.

• Visa Timing: Allow 4–8 weeks for student visa (X1/X2) processing after receiving your admission letter and JW202 form.
