About Taishan University (TSU)
Taishan University (TSU) is located in Taian, a city in central Shandong province. Taian city is named after Mount Tai and was listed by the State Council as the first batch of tourist cities open to the outside world. The International Mountain Climbing Festival is held in September every year.
Taishan University (TSU) is a full-time provincial-level undergraduate university, located at the foot of world-famous Mount Tai, which received UNESCO status as both a World Natural Heritage and World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987. With its history tracing back to 1905, the university began to offer higher education in 1958, and undergraduate education in 2002. The university is one of the 19 provincial-level teacher education bases, and also one of the first nine universities in Shandong Province to have the qualification to enroll government-funded normal students. The university at present runs 19 colleges and 54 undergraduate enrollment programs, among which, four have been approved as the first-class undergraduate programs at the national level and twelve at the provincial level. Eight programs have passed the second-level certification of teacher education programs. The university now has a total enrollment of 18,000 students and more than 1,500 faculty members.
Taishan University is one of the earliest to obtain the qualification for international student admission. In 1995, it began recruiting international students from the United States, Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, Ghana, Pakistan and some other countries. It was approved as the first batch of Chinese language education bases in China by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council in 1999.
Since 2017, the Chinese language learning program and the Cultural Experience Camp have been successfully held and well received by the international teachers and students. In 2019, more than 80 teachers and students from Bangor University in the UK, the University of Bergen in Norway, and the University of the West Indies Kefhill in Barbados participated in TSU’s “Summer Chinese Language and Taishan Cultural Experience Camp”. In 2022, 153 Philippine students participated in the 18-day “Online Workshop for Overseas Chinese Teachers” held by the university.
