University of South China (USC), established in 1958, is a comprehensive key provincial university. The university began offering education to international students in 2010 and received high-quality certification for higher education of international students from the Ministry of Education in 2021. Notably, eight disciplines—Clinical Medicine, Chemistry, Engineering, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Biology and Biochemistry, Materials science, Environmental science and ecology, and Molecular Biology and Genetics—are ranked in the top 1% globally according to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). 

In its long history of education, the university has developed distinct “neclear characteristics,” a strong “medical brand,” and an “environmental advantage.” It is a comprehensive university that primarily focuses on engineering and medicine, while also coordinating the development of nine major disciplines: philosophy, economics, law, literature, science, management, and arts. The university comprises 25 directly affiliated colleges, 8 directly affiliated hospitals, 4 collaborative affiliated hospitals, and 28 units for collaborative graduate education. It holds the authority to grant doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees, offering 63 undergraduate majors, 26 first-level master’s degree programs, and 20 types of professional master’s degrees. Additionally, it has 8 first-level doctoral degree programs and 5 postdoctoral research stations. Currently, the university has over 39,000 full-time undergraduate students, more than 7,700 doctoral and master’s students, and nearly 600 international students.

The university's faculty team, including clinical instructors, comprises over 4,000 members. Among them, more than 100 are distinguished experts, including specially appointed Chang Jiang Scholars, recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, experts under the National Key Talent Programs, specialists supported by the National High-Level Talent Special Support Plan, national-level young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, and scholars enjoying special government allowances from the State Council. Additionally, there are 172 experts recognized at the provincial level, such as Hunan Furong Scholars and recipients of the Hunan Outstanding Young Talents award. 

The university library houses a collection of over 2.93 million physical books and provides access to 8,139 types of Chinese and foreign journals. It also offers 17,849 types of high-quality electronic journals through the EBSCO platform and maintains more than 50 databases, including WOS, IEL, CNKI, and Chaoxing. 

Located in the historically and culturally significant city of Hengyang, Hunan, the university boasts picturesque landscapes and convenient transportation. Hengyang is the hometown of Cai Lun, the inventor of papermaking (one of China’s ancient “Four Great Inventions”), and Wang Fuzhi (also known as Wang Chuanshan), a philosopher often referred to as the “Eastern Hegel.” The city is situated near Hong Kong and Macau, serving as a vital hub connecting the eastern and western regions of China. Notably, it features both humanistic landmarks like the Shigu Academy and natural wonders represented by Mount Hengshan (Nanyue). Moreover, Hengyang Nan Yue Airport offers direct flights to major domestic cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Chengdu, Xi’an, Chongqing, Kunming, Xiamen, Haikou, and Sanya.
